People often seek therapy when they: · Are coping with the loss of a loved one · Feeling lethargic, down, and disconnected. · Have experienced a traumatic event · Are undergoing a major life change · Are experiencing significant stress · Have intense emotions or behaviors such as anger or addiction However, you don’t need to be facing a major issue to go to therapy. We are proud to have developed and launched MHKMentalHealth.org in collaboration with other providers. The site is an online live database of available mental health providers based on presenting issues, insurance, and other important factors when selecting a provider. Local providers register for the site and regularly update their availability. This service is offered free to providers and our community. Sometimes, people are looking for a specific provider at Cornerstone, and we encourage them to call back occasionally to see if a particular provider is available.
  • How many sessions will I need?
There is no strict limit to the number of therapy sessions one can attend. You can continue therapy for as long as it remains beneficial, and your therapist is available. Many individuals enter therapy with specific goals, and therapists often estimate the number of sessions needed to achieve these objectives. Certain therapeutic approaches are designed to be brief, typically requiring only two to ten sessions. In contrast, longer-term therapies might span 20 to 60 sessions. Some people may remain in therapy for years, especially when addressing long-term issues such as severe mental illness or past trauma. Additionally, therapy can provide a space to discuss daily events and receive compassionate advice and professional guidance.
  • How often do I attend therapy?
The frequency of therapy sessions can vary widely based on individual needs and the type of treatment. While attending therapy once a week is a common practice, it’s important to recognize that there is no universal schedule that fits everyone. Therapy should be customized to each client’s unique situation and requirements. The decision on how often to attend therapy depends on several factors, including the client’s condition, the treatment approach, and their specific needs.

  • Is therapy worth the cost?
The worth of psychotherapy often transcends its monetary cost. While it may involve financial investment, the benefits can be profound and far-reaching. Psychotherapy can enhance mental health, improve overall well-being, and equip individuals with valuable coping skills and insights that can positively impact various aspects of their lives. For many, the value of psychotherapy lies in its ability to facilitate personal growth, resolve longstanding issues, and improve relationships and career prospects. It provides a safe space to explore emotions, behaviors, and thought patterns, leading to greater self-awareness and resilience, which can lead to more fulfilling and productive lives. Whether psychotherapy is worth the cost depends on individual circumstances and priorities. While financial considerations are important, the potential long-term benefits of psychotherapy often outweigh the initial investment for those seeking meaningful and lasting change in their lives.
